Last Christmas I was full of hope. Hope for the future, hope that Alicia's battle with cancer was nearing its end. Hope that 2012 would be remembered as the Christmas Alicia was recovering. We made plans for next year, plans to move ahead, we made plans for the future.
This year I have found myself wondering, reflecting on that hope. And I have decided that hope was not in vain. Hope gave me joy, hope gave us laughter and smiles and dreams.
I could choose to dwell on loss, and occasionally I do. More importantly I choose each day and in each situation to renew hope.
So many things this time of year as us for faith in what we can not see: hope for the New Year, faith in Christ, belief in Santa, and trust in our loved ones.
Of course I wish that this year had gone differently, but in the end I have been given the gift to see things I previously overlooked. I now can see the hope and miracles which abound. I see babies who were never supposed to be, I see kids healed of cancer, soldiers brought safely home, marriages thriving in tough times, I see the light in people even when they don't see it themselves.
Hope, miracles and love surround us everyday; so do pain, suffering and despair.
I choose Hope,
I choose Miracles,
and I choose Love.
I choose to renew my faith in those things that I can not see.
Merry Christmas.
