The current plan is for her to get 4 full feeds (which means the cans of liquid meal replacer) in and she can get chemo. So far, she has done 2 with some success.
She will remain on fluids the entire time she is in the hospital so that she doesn't run the risk of dehydrating again. They also humidify the air going in her trach tube while she's there and that helps with the comfort of breathing as well as the loosening of secretions so that she doesn't have to strain as much to cough.
The hospital is the best place for Alicia. Don't be concerned that her admission is a bad sign, it is simply the best way to ensure she is getting what she needs. And they can also use different medicines and techniques in the hospital setting that are more effective at managing pain, nausea, and other discomforts.
This morning Alicia told me that she feels like she can't get over this hill. She isn't better today, but she isn't worse either, and she is feeling desperate to move forward.
I can't thank everyone enough for you kind words, your faithful prayers, and the comfort you have extended to all of us.
