I don't particularly have a lot to tell you, but you have silently and unknowingly guilted me in to writing.
Alicia was admitted to the hospital Monday morning. They determined that her fever was caused by pneumonia, and the pneumonia stemmed from her aspirating some vomit. So they hooked her up to a stronger antibiotic and then basically let her rest to get better. Her white blood cell count has rebounded to the normal range, and in fact, her complete blood counts (CBC) were all in the acceptable ranges. They did do a blood transfusion. Dr. Laux felt like it was a good time to give her that boost and since she was already in the hospital it may eliminate the need for an extra trip to the hospital before her next chemo treatment just for the purpose of a transfusion. They also tried a continuous feed, rather than a bolus feed. Sounds like that worked, but is not a long term option for her, because her body is capable of tolerating the bolus feeds and that is better for her in the long run. (Side note: bolus just means intermittant and doing a large (this is relative) amount in a short time, and mimics the habit of eating meals) Anyway, yesterday afternoon, they determined she was going home today, however, this morning she woke up with a swollen jaw/cheek. So they have done a CT Scan and are waiting for the doctor to review that scan. Once he has, assuming he isn't concerned about the swelling, she will head on home. She is going to her house again and is visibly stronger than she has been in a while, so this discharge has a decidedly optimistic tone.
So that is the story for now, one which I am certain will change...as change is the only constant these days.
Thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, donations, and love!
